Our Mission

The Global Schools Project has been designed to promote learning, academic performance, and college and workforce preparation.  Participating social studies teachers examine global issues, globalization, and internationalization and apply this content to secondary school teaching and curriculum development. As a result, their students will acquire the skills and knowledge critical for participation in a global marketplace.

Today’s students live in a world much more interconnected — economically, culturally, politically — than any generation that has come before them.  Clearly,  education must prepare students for the increasingly globalized world in which they will live and work .

In an unprecedented partnership between the University of South Florida and the Hillsborough County Public Schools, the Pasco County Schools, and with the generous support of The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, the Global Schools Project  helps social studies teachers from local high schools infuse globalization topics into their curriculum using cutting-edge pedagogy that engage learners in real-world issues.  As a result, students’ learning, academic performance, and workforce preparation are enhanced.

Currently, the Global Schools Project is comprised of teachers from Wesley Chapel High and Wiregrass Ranch High in Pasco County, Florida and Wharton, Jefferson, Alonso, Freedom, and Robinson High Schools in Hillsborough County, Florida. Lessons and materials developed during the course of the project are freely available to other educators on this website.  They have been created and field-tested by practicing teachers and you are invited to browse, download, and use in your own classroom.

Our Services

• Specialized Training Workshops: participating teachers have attended workshops on global citizenship, human rights issues, the global economy, Holocaust Education, Peace Education, and refugee youngsters, just to name a few.

• Development of Curriculum Materials: self-contained lesson plans have been created and posted to our Project’s web site, free and downloadable for educators from around the world.

• Conference Presentations: professional presentations showcasing the curriculum materials developed through our Project are made at local, regional, and national conferences such as the Florida Conference for the Social Studies, the National Conference for the Social Studies, and the International Studies Schools Association.

• Technical Assistance: consulting services to schools, universities, and government organizations working to infuse global perspectives into their activities.
